If I Had Superpowers

I am currently (a bit too late than most people) in the craze of the LivingSocial’s PickYourFive on FaceBook.

The one about superpowers intrigued me so much I decided to write a whole post about my picks.

Imagine if I were a superhuman with some enviable powers, I can do a lot of things that other people cannot do. But I am not interested to be a superhero who fight all the evils in the world. I am much too into my self interests to promote justice, haha. In addition, I have realized that the powers I picked are generally less obvious – those that leave little to no traces or clues. Yep! If I had any superpowers, I would rather kept it hidden from other people. I do not want to grow wings and fly above the town, for example, because it will gain me too much exposure that would not allow a peaceful life.

Let us just get into my picks without further ado:

  1. Unlimited Intelligence. This is the ultimate best thing that I could ever ask for. No matter how powerful I am, everything is of no use if I lack the idea on how to allocate my power effectively and efficiently. But with such an inexhaustible intelligence, I can plot a flawless plan to achieve anything I want. And there would be no more difficulties in studying any subjects. Straight A+’s for my courses without sweating, yay!
  2. Mind Reading. True thoughts shall be revealed and nothing can be hidden away from me anymore. Best of all, I can read opponents’ moves so that I would have never fallen into their traps. So when I know how their minds work, I would be able to learn how to approach these people and get them to act as planned. Besides, to be able to read some random thoughts from some random people on the road is pretty interesting.
  3. Invisibility. A perfect way to prevent and escape from any human-induced problems. I can do whatever I like and nobody would know. Fingerprints? Foot tracks? Nah, I already had the Unlimited Intelligence to help me with these minor issues. Imagine what I can do with invisibility: free movies, backstage pass to gigs from my favorite musicians, stalking people, and way too many other good things to be mentioned!
  4. Time Travel and Teleportation. When space and time are no more obstacles. This one is actually a bit tricky for (1) such manipulation can drastically change anything that any misfires would be dangerous; and (2) there is a risk of way too much exposure as I suddenly pop out of nowhere. But then, that is why I had (1) Unlimited Intelligence to eliminate such missteps in the first place; and (2) Invisibility so that I would be able to control when to make myself apparent. With this, I can get to anywhere on anytime that I want. There is no more need for transportation and I would never be chased by time deficiency. And what more? I can change the history, cool!
  5. Strength/Invulnerability. Just in case if things get violent and out of control like, say, a sudden attack by a raptor when I travelled to the prehistoric time. It is not like I can interpret (or even read) the thoughts of a raptor or be able to immediately plot something intelligent to escape from it. In such a panic situation, it is best for me to resort to physical battles. The only thing that matters here most is to ensure that I survive unharmed. Besides, such a strength would be helpful in daily lives. For one, moving house (or from one university hall to another) would be much easier.

Just a side note, I am not tempted to have Immortality or Resurrection Power at all. Who wants to live forever, anyway? Life is much too boring and a century (if I live that long) is pretty sufficient to me. And to resurrect myself? Duh, I fear the experience of dying, but I do not fear the death itself. To die once is painful enough, and it is much too stupid to return to the miserable world only to die again in the end.
