Journalism, Hall Allocation, and Music
- Read this week’s issue of Nanyang Chronicle. Flip to page 34 and you can see my name co-credited on an article about SUniG (Singapore University Games). I think Jianyue is giving me too much credit for the joint article as the vast majority of the word counts should rightly belong to him. True, I did the reporting on swimming, but it was like one-or-two-paragraph worth of information on the published article. I am glad that at least my hard work, especially with all the craps that I had to face, yields a result; however tiny it is.
- I have been an active poster on the FaceBook group NTU Hostel Point!!, which current hot topic discusses about the incredibly flawed “987 system”. I was almost a victim of this scheme myself (despite the maximum 9+9=18 points), so truly, I have a concern regarding the implementation of this system. You can read my general objection here: They Never Fail to Piss Me Off. And if you care to know more (WARNING: bitter language that might be irritating to some parties), then you can read Let Me Talk About Room Issue Again and Unfair Hall Allocation (this one is particularly offensive, a bit immature even, but I talked about possible consideration for secondary CCA factors) as well. I had some new arguments and thoughts regarding the issue that I posted on the FaceBook group, perhaps I would summarize them into a single post in this blog later. But it should wait until my final examination is over. Moreover, a friend of mine in the Student Union has informed me that the president might want to have an informal meet up with me to seek some opinions.
- By the way, I just listened to some new albums recently. I am particularly surprised with Backstreet Boys’ latest output: This Is Us. They are like Britney Spears. You know, those popular artists who know how to release killer singles but had few actual good albums that you can listen to from the beginning to the end. This Is Us is essentially their best since at least Black & Blue (released nine years ago) and is easily in their Top 3 best albums ever. It is just pop music with nice electro-dance beats. And better yet, few crappy or lameass tracks. The high points here are not as high as their usual hit materials, but this album beats simply everything they have released before in terms of consistency.
