The 2009 ELDS Award (Part 2)
Welcome back to the show!
This is time to get a bit more serious for a while. Undoubtedly, the contribution of our sectional leaders should be recognized. They have worked so hard all year round in order to mould the future. ELDS has shaped the face of a few generations towards a more critical thinking society that knows how to drive their point home. The torch has been passed. But who shall be deemed to have been the most outstanding?
Sectional Leader of the Year (Male)
Abstain vote(s): 12
1. Albert Liong with 41.18% of votes.
2. Richie with 35.29% of votes.
3. Gunawan Tanzil with 17.65% of votes.
4. Yagulardi with 5.88% of votes.
Sectional Leader of the Year (Female)
Abstain vote(s): 11
1. Catharine Tanara with 45.71% of votes.
2. Erna Chandra with 25.71% of votes.
3. Lydia Artan with 20.00% of votes.
4. Caroline Jayalie with 8.58% of votes.
Congratulations to those who won! But it shall be noted that all of the nominees have truly given out their best and their contributions are not of any less importance. Thanks for your dedication, sectional leaders!
Talking of which not to overlook the importance of people’s contribution, sometimes we tend to underrate the internal value of some gems that needs to be rubbed a little bit to shine. This award is given to those humble members who maintain low-profile status despite the fact that they could have knocked you into pieces with their killer arguments. They just chose not to.
Underdog of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 7
1. Johan Zhang with 48.72% of votes.
2. Roberto Lie with 25.64% of votes.
3. Fennie Chia with 12.82% of votes.
3. Jaslyn Pratiwi with 12.82% of votes.
Johan never failed to surprise us. Seems to us like he is always a regular someone who just happened to be a member. But whenever he opens his mouth, he can spit the most venomous arguments that no one can find a vaccine against. Gently, he sneaked into the top and it would not be an overstatement to conclude that he is among the best public speakers we discovered in recent years.
And ladies and gentlemen, it would be an understatement to carve the name of the next four contestants alongside with the great geniuses in the past. Our Team Olympus is made up of individuals with the biggest brains in the town. Think you can outsmart them? Think again.
Einstein of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 4
1. Ivana Polim with 66.67% of votes.
2. Michiko Mulia with 26.19% of votes.
3. Richard Fernando with 4.76% of votes.
4. Johan Zhang with 2.38% of votes.
Our resident future Nobel Prize recipient for chemistry, why am I not surprised?
Because only lebay people will? This is where we comes to:
Manja Ninja of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 4
1. Angelina Chandra with 50.00% of the votes.
2. Jesiska with 38.10% of the votes.
3. Paulina Tandiono with 11.90% of the votes.
4. Lydia Artan with 0.00% of the votes.
It is sad to see the original twin being splitted and judged separately, but someone has to come out at the top of the food chain. So now that the cannibalizing is over, AC (so she wanted herself to be called with a manja-ish nickname) is the eventual Mademoiselle de Salon Traitement. Jesiska is still one at our heart, though.
The Manja Ninjas might be on a mission to hunt the boys in the town, but there is one person who embarks on the organization’s top-secret mission. More fierce than Lara Croft and Angelina Jolie combined, this figure can break an opponent’s heart and crush his lung with no mercy. But who is hiding behind the disguise? The hidden truth is finally concealed.
Black Widow of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 2
1. Paulina Tandiono with 50.00% of the votes.
2. Jesiska with 29.55% of the votes.
3. Nancy Tania with 18.18% of the votes.
4. Fennie Chia with 2.27% of the votes.
Not even the most insane psychopaths in every single thriller films you can think of have the power to beat Paulina Tandiono. Be warned! She might be seductive as far as romance goes. But at the end of the day, something will happen and you will realize that she is one heartless black individualist.
We have saved the last three most important awards for last. ELDS has been known for churning out incredible talents in numerous forms of public speaking. In previous years, we have seen our delegations sweeping off numerous competitions and bringing a lot of trophies home. Let us begin with the first one. This is given to the most charismatic individual who grace in the middle of the screen to deliver us with the most important information that you will ever need to know.
Newscaster of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 3
1. Andrew Darwitan with 46.51% of votes.
2. Paulina Tandiono with 32.56% of votes.
3. Catharine Tanara with 13.95% of votes.
4. Christine Lestari with 6.98% of votes.
Who can forget his trademarked orange shirt, blood-red tie, and black leather boots?
Next is a category that is awarded for the most convincing and persuasive speaker in the society. You know, those kind of people who can tell you a story about an African elephant taking a dump and still get you to listen to it.
Speech Master of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 1
1. Paulina Tandiono with 64.44% of votes.
2. Andrew Darwitan with 22.22% of votes.
3. Christine Lestari with 6.67% of votes.
3. Jesiska with 6.67% of votes.
She is the organization’s greatest asset. A million dollar bill imported from other school. But now that we have claimed her, who wants to let go of her?
Last but not least…
Debate Team of the Year
Abstain vote(s): 1
1. PAS (Lineups: Andrew Darwitan, Stevensen, Paulina Tandiono) with 80.00% of votes.
2. JMC (Lineups: Michiko Mulia, Christine Lestari, Jesiska) with 8.89% of votes.
3. CLN (Lineups: Catharine Tanara, Nancy Tania, Lydia Artan) with 6.67% of votes.
4. WRW (Lineups: Widiana Lim, Ricky Wiriady, Winny Sim) with 4.44% of votes.
PAS! Simply a team of three random individuals that were picked and be informed all of a sudden about an important debate competition that would be held on… “What?! Tomorrow? Then how about our ongoing school examination?” So without preparation of any sort, the team whose two of the members have not even previously met before went for the Indonesian Schools Debating Championship provincial selection. The three members learned that the fruit of the competition (or any debate competitions in general) is not the end result, but the teamwork itself. So the group went to Sun Plaza after the competition to celebrate their victory as, err, “second winner”. But that would be their first and the, err, “second last” time not emerging at first place in various debate competitions.
So now we have come to the end of the show. Hope to see you again on next occasion. If you have any remarks or suggestions for future randomness, feel free to utilize the comment box below.
